Comments Off

TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. – A 26-year-old Arcata man was seriously injured Monday, December 29, 2008, when the SUV he was a passenger in drove off Highway 36 and fell 100 feet down an embankment before ending on its top. The crash occured approximately 3 miles east of Highway 3. Highway 36 in this locale is a two lane highway that winds through the sparsely populated coastal mountains from Red Bluff to Rio Linda, south of Eureka. The Record Searchlight reported that SUV failed to negotiate a curve before crossing the opposing lane and launching down the embankment. It is not clear if weather related conditions were a contributing factor.

The injured passenger was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries. It was reported that he was released Tuesday. The driver, a 25 year old Manila man, apparently was unhurt.
