How About an DUI Ignition Lock for Christmas!

Comments Off

The Red Bluff Daily News reported today that devices which disable vehicles when the driver is under the influence are being installed and maintained by a local auto shop for $42.00 a month. The device, called an Ignition Interlock Device (IID), requires a breath analysis before the car may be operated. If the driver registers an alcohol content above .03, the car will not start. Even after starting, the driver must repeat the breath test during certain time intervals to assure that the BA has not increased.

Persons convicted of DUI are being allowed to drive their cars with this device on board. In these circumstances, the device has dramatically lowered the recidivism rate for DUIs. Astonishingly, some 314 DUI arrests were made in this community last year.

Perhaps its time to drop a subtle hint to those that endanger our roads. An IID for Christmas!

Happy and Safe Holidays Everyone.
