Impaired Driver Kills Passenger in High Speed Crash

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. – A high speed broadside crash on Parkway Drive resulted in the death of a 29-year-old Crescent City woman and critical injuries to another.

On Sunday evening, November 9, 2008, at approximately 9:20 p.m., a vehicle heading westbound at a high rate of speed on Parkway Drive collided with another vehicle from the opposite direction that was attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway. The fatally injured woman was a passenger in the westbound vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Daily Triplicate, the 38 year-old male driver of the first car was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The 59-year-old male driver of the turning vehicle was air-flighted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding and remains in critical condition in the intesive care unit.

The crash is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
