REDDING, Calif. – Within six hours, three pedestrians were struck on this city’s streets, causing critical injuries to one, and killing another.

At approximately 3:08 pm yesterday, two women were hit in the crosswalk at Court Street and Tehama Ave. by a left turning pick-up truck. Both were employees of Shasta County. The 57-year-old Redding woman was sent to Mercy Medical Center in critical condition. Her walking mate, a 47-year-old Cottonwood woman, was also injured, but released later that day from the hospital.

Later that evening, at approximately 8:45 pm, a 47-year-old man was hit by a big rig while he was walking on Eastside Road. A witness indicated that the pedestrian may have had his head covered with a blanket.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
